Yes, Patent Truth loves the nifty new gizmos set to debut at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas tomorrow, but we’ll be keeping tabs on the policy news at the week-long event too. Consumer electronics industry leaders, media and Washington officials come together in discussions and seminars that cover a broad spectrum of related legal and regulatory issues. We’ll be paying close attention to any mention of patents and have outlined a couple sessions worth following:
1. The Keynote Speech: Qualcomm CEO Paul Jacobs will deliver the big preshow keynote tonight, highlighting the company’s “Born Mobile” theme that addresses mobile technology’s role in the world. The keynote presentation will include a big announcement, musical entertainment from Maroon 5 and a jaw-dropping graphical presentation.
2. One-on-One With Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chairman Julius Genachowski: The FCC Chairman will be joined by Consumer Electronics Association CEO Gary Shapiro for a discussion on broadband, spectrum reform, competition policy and other critical issues impacting the consumer electronics industry.
3. Patent Licensing Entity Session: Innovators and Washington policymakers will come together to discuss how they are working together to help the tech industry continue to innovate. Representative Peter DeFazio (D-OR) will be the featured speaker and lead a panel discussion with representatives from VOXX International, Google and Newegg Inc.
